The area we live in is centred on the four communities of our title. Two are very much based on villages (Smailholm and Nenthorn), while the other two are more estate based. All communities are very friendly and supportive, and under normal conditions will look after each other with little intervention.
Resilient Communities is a network of communities linked to Scottish Borders Council so that when something major goes wrong SBC can focus its resources to help. We have seen the benefit of this network in two areas – the support and co-ordination of effort early in the Covid Pandemic and second in the emergency support during storm Arwen.
It is hard to predict what might happen, but “Resilient Communities” enables us to work together with a wider network to ensure that whatever occurs we are best placed to cope with the outcome.
If you would like to know more about this, or would like to offer to help in an emergency speak to your local Community Councillor for more information.
