Nenthorn village lies three and a half miles north of Kelso on the A6089 and only 40 miles from Edinburgh. We have a population of approximately 168 according to the last census.
The Parish also takes in Newton Don Estate, Courthill, Girrick and other surrounding farms.
In years gone by we had a village school, two churches and two manses, all of which are now private homes. Recently there have been several new houses constructed with a few more at the planning stage. There are also a number of holiday homes mostly owned by residents.
We have a busy Equestrian Centre and you will hardly ever visit Nenthorn without meeting a horse and rider.
The Eden Water which flows in from the north along the edge of the village has several beautiful nature walks in the nearby woods or along its banks. In Newton Don Estate you can visit a waterfall called “Stichill Lynn”. Views extend over agricultural land and on to the Cheviot Hills which form the border with England.
The community is hoping to build a new recreation area for its residents. Money accrued from the sale of the village hall which had fallen into disrepair, will hopefully be used to transform a field into a useable area for everyone.
A lovely place to stay with easy access to a main road.
